CNY Special - I

Welcome to Dora's CNY (Chinese New Year) Special series on Fashion (衣), Food (食), Home Decoration (住) and Travel (行). Starting from this week and till next week, I'll be publishing writeups featuring Fashion (衣), Food (食), Home Decoration (住) and Travel (行) related to Chinese New Year. Hope you can drop by to read the writeups and share with me your interesting comments. :)

Here are the highlights for today's edition:

1. Fashion (衣)

To the Chinese, red is an auspicious colour and many like to wear red (or other colours blended with red) clothings during CNY.

2. Food (食)

Kumquats

Kumquats are sweet and juicy. However, it is advised that those with weaker constitution should avoid or consume less kumquats.

Fruit Mochi

Muah Chee

A wide variety of mochi (or muah chee) are available during CNY. Besides these fruit mochi which come in boxes, there are also stalls selling muah chee which you can pick and mix @ ~SGD1.50 per 100 grams.

Snacks and Food Hampers

At supermarkets, you can see many different snacks (candies, cookies, etc) and food hampers piling on shelves!

3. Home Decoration (住)

Ornaments

Ornaments in different shapes, sizes and designs are available for home decoration to enhance the festive mood!

Wall Clock

A red wall clock with a cute cow cartoon for the Year of Ox (牛 or Cow)!

4. Travel (行)

CNY Tour Packages

This year, the CNY falls on 26th and 27th Jan (Mon and Tue) and for those who like to travel, they can simply take leave on 28th to 30th Jan (Wed to Fri) to enjoy a long holiday! :)

This reminds me. I need some decorations to brighten up my place. This year we are going on minimalist approach, not probably will not stock up much goodies. I think a trip to Chinatown is in the works for me.

I was in Chinatown last week and couldn't resist the mochi and bought some home. I love seeing all the RED decorations hanging around there, and FYI I'm not a Chinese .
