333
Like the past few years, I attended the CNY (Chinese New Year) dinner (8 course-meal and Yusheng) organised by the HePo (or HoPo) Wong Clan (河婆黄氏宗亲家族) yesterday at the Guilin Restaurant (桂林海鲜酒楼).
Yeah! This year is a lucky one since I won some supermarket shopping vouchers in the lucky draw (the auspicious number is 333). Fatt ah! (i.e. means prosper in wealth). :)

Fortune, Wealth & Prosperity
Chinese New Year (CNY) is here again.... today being the 2nd day of the "Rabbit" Year.
Do you know some Chinese like to hang a bundle of Chinese Leeks (da suan; 中国大蒜) together with a cabbage (bao cai; 包菜) in their house during CNY? According to them, they believe such arrangement of vegetables represents "sure count (money)" or "包算" and symbolises fortune, wealth and prosperity in the new year!

On behalf of the It Meows team, Dora would like to wish all Chinese a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

"Doraemon"

Looking at this Doraemon-shaped mooncake, does it remind you that the Mid-Autumn Festival* is coming soon? :D
Bought this mooncake (with red bean paste inside) at Cake History - 1 pc for $0.80 and 3 pcs for $2.00.
* This year, the Mid-Autumn festival falls on 22 September 2010.

Dong Zhi 2009
Dong Zhi (Winter Solstice Festival; 冬至) is here again (22 December 2009). This year, my chef decides to prepare Hakka-style tangyuan (Glutinous Rice Balls ; 湯圓) which is cooked in savoury soup. The main ingredients used in the preparation of this savoury tangyuan include chicken, Chinese leeks, shiitake mushrooms and ginger. In contrast to the conventional tangyuan cooked in sweet soup, my chef's Hakka-style savoury tang"yuan" uses glutinous rice "droplets" (instead of balls) which look like bee tai mak (droplet noodles)! Hee Hee. ;p

Home-made Mooncakes

Yesterday was Mid-Autumn Festival and my chef made some mini snow-skin mooncakes using molds with the "家好月圆" characters... Oops... I actually mean "花好月圆". ;p
